* Household Hazardous Waste items accepted *

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program provides the citizens of citrus County the opportunity to safely and properly dispose of their household hazardous waste.

Free household hazardous waste disposal - Citrus County homeowners and residents may bring up to 10 gallons or 60 pounds of household hazardous waste for proper disposal on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for no additional charge. Please review the "household hazardous waste items" accepted.

Small businesses are required to pay for all hazardous waste being disposed of and, for Florida DEP, must maintain their disposal receipt for a period of three years. Businesses should first call to schedule an appointment for disposal.

Collections are held at the Citrus County Central Landfill, located at 230 W. Gulf to Lake Hwy., Lecanto, Fl. (Highway 44 between Lecanto and Inverness). For those who work through the week, a need was recognized and is being provided for a Saturday collection day for the months of January, April, July and October.

These weekly and Saturday collection events have proven very successful. Communities have provided an abundance of hazardous waste that otherwise may have been managed improperly. Through the efforts of the Hazardous Waste Program staff, with their technical knowledge of sorting, categorizing, consolidating and/or recycling the products received, the County's cost for hazardous waste disposal continues to decrease.
