Pet Adoption ExtravaganzaAnimal Adoption Extravaganza - "Best Friend Fest."

Citrus County Animal Services first annual BFF – "Best Friend Fest" - An Animal Adoption Extravaganza - will be held at the Citrus County Auditorium on Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Citrus County Chronicle and the Humanitarians of Florida, is dedicated to promoting adoptions and educating the public on ways to care for their furry friends. The focus will be on education, awareness, and increasing adoptions. Citizens will have the opportunity to meet neighborhood veterinarians, enjoy one-on-one with prospective groomers, or just come to share that common thread – the affection we all have for our pets. Face painting for the kids too!

Neighborhood Stablization ProgramP.L.A.Y. Soccer & T-ball, ages 3-5, now open for registration.

Citrus County Parks & Recreation is offering PLAY Soccer & T-ball during the month of January. This is a 6 week program that meets for 1 hr each week. The cost is $45 which includes sports equipment and team t-shirt.

The Nature Coast Volunteer Center, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program and Citrus Builders Care, Inc. sponsor a Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Project will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 and Citrus County residents are invited to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy by working together to tackle area problems. We are welcoming our local residents to join thousands of Americans across the country in making the holiday "A Day On, Not A Day Off" by serving others.

All County Government Offices will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2012, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Neighborhood Stablization ProgramCitrus County Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) Orientation and Open House Jan 19th & 20th.

The County has scheduled an orientation of the NSP program on January 19th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Citrus County Resource Center, 2804 W Marc Knighton Ct. Lecanto. This orientation is designed for all interested persons wanting to know more about the NSP program, eligibility requirements, properties purchased and bank financing. Additionally, open house for the six (6) properties that are ready for sale, is scheduled for Friday, January 20th.

The Citrus County Department of Community Services Housing Services Section administers the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). The County received funding of approximately $3.9 million to purchase foreclosed properties and sell or rent them to low to moderate income households at or below 120% of the area median income which is $57,720, adjusted for household size.

Kid's Fishing Clinic

8th Annual Kids Fishing Clinic - February 25th.

Teaching children a lifelong hobby, appreciation for our marine environment and a fun family outing are the objectives for the Kids' Fishing Clinic. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Citrus County Parks and Recreation present a FREE Kids' Fishing Clinic for children between the ages of 5 and 15 on Saturday, February 25th.

Free Christmas Tree disposalFree Christmas Tree disposal at the Landfill through January 30, 2012.

Homeowners may recycle natural Christmas trees at the Citrus County Central Landfill free of charge during the months of December and January only.  Trees must be cleaned of all decorations, lights, and no artificial snow.
